Meet AISD Superintendent Dr. Fred Brent

All,
We have a message from Dr. Fred Brent, the Superintendent of Alvin ISD.  He has invited us all to a meeting at Nolan Ryan Junior High at 7:00 p.m. on May 29th.  Please view the wonderful video message and make plans to attend this meeting.  Also, please forward to everyone you know within the NRJH attendance area so we can have a big showing.  Thank you Dr. Brent!

  1. Questions / issues we have asked Dr. Brent to address on May 29th are:
    1. To give us definite EARLIEST POSSIBLE TIMELINE for High School #3
    2. To give us alternate plans in the interim for NRJH graduating students
    a. Pearland ISD has accepted ALVIN ISD students in the past. Could Alvin ISD facilitate interested students from NRJH to go to eg. Glenda Dawson High School until high school #3 is built?
    b. Can high school #3 be built in stages - eg. separate building for 9 / 10th grades to come up first- a smaller building won't take much time to construct.
    c. Can a smaller magnet program be built soon?

  2. 1. I think his position would be that the AISD will make plans for the SCR area HS when there is consistent support for the bond issue from each of the following:
    a. Independent demographic study
    b. Citizen's Advisory Council
    c. Telephone survey
No one can say when there will be support from all three of the above. The superintendent cannot unilaterally decide on a property tax increase to fund high school #3...there has to be public support for it.

2b. MHS became operational in 2006 and went live with just 9th/10th grades. That is probably how the SCR area high school will as well. Hard to imagine there being full classes in all 4 grades when the HS opens.

2c. That is an idea that definitely warrants discussion and research.

  3. We could also ask the Dr.Brent if there is any chance of including the the far end of SCR into the AISD zoning...then those SCR kids could benefit from the High School as well.
